Anacortes is rightly known as the "Gateway to the San Juan Islands." Ferry service is available to the San Juans, as well as Vancouver BC and other desitnations north. A charming northwestern historical town, Anacortes offers a variety of antique shops, restaurants featuring fresh seafood, and nightclubs with live entertainment. Many celebrities and movie stars call Anacortes "home." Anacortes is also a favorite community for retirees, thanks to its "laid back" aura. Anacortes is about 12 miles west of Interstate 5, and represents the westernmost outpost of the Skagit Valley. Seattle is about an hour and a half to the south, and Vancouver, BC is about an hour and a half to the north. State Highway 20 leads east through the Cascade Mountains, and on to central Washington. With the exception of La Conner, Anacortes leads Skagit County in Real Estate prices. Based on square footage and comparable value, homes in Anacortes cost more than any other city in the county. As of January, 2006, the median price for a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home with garage was $350,500. Jim Wolcott, Kellie Wolcott, and Richard Perez are all full-time Realtors.
